Frequently Asked Questions

How are our processes, products or services specified in quote requests or an estimate?
Specifying our processes, products and services tends to vary with each project.  We usually find it works best to get your picture or drawing in front of us and then walk through the details of the drawing via a phone conversation.  We can receive most electronic files; however, we can also work with rough, hand drawings that have been faxed to us.

Why do we use the “Old World Method” for fabricating our stained glass windows?
While the “Old World Method” is more labor intense and takes more time the reason we still use it are three fold: beauty, strength and acoustics.  The hand puttying gives a beautiful patina finish and will also give the panel strength to last into the third and fourth generation of family heirlooms.  The “Old World Method” also eliminates what we call door rattle.  If stained glass is fabricated in channels the glass tends to rattle in the door whenever it is opened or closed.

Do we fabricate one-of-a-kind custom stained glass?
Yes, we would be happy to fabricate your one-of-a-kind custom stained glass panel.  Pricing varies by how intricate the pattern is and what types and colors of glass you choose for your stained glass artwork.  Forward a drawing to us and we will contact you with a quote.

Do we have a catalog?
We do not have a catalog.  Most of the work we do is custom and the patterns are proprietary.  We hope to have some of the basic patterns pictured on our website soon.

Do we do channel stained glass fabrication and if so what colors are available?
Certain states do not allow lead to be used in installed products so we do channel fabrication at JIT Classic Glass.  The channel is also available in zinc, copper, and brass.

What other options are available for cabinet door inserts?
JIT Companies has a waterjet cutting division which lends us the opportunity to cut all types of metal and material to accommodate a cabinet door insert.  Coatings and special finishes are also available including:  powder coating, patinas and sandblasting.  Let your imagination run wild.

What about oversized dimensions of cabinet doors?
We inventory 12 patterns of clear textured glass at JIT.  These are all stocked in oversized dimensions (84 in. x 64 in.).  If you have an unusually large cabinet door, not to worry; we can still get it to you within our normal lead time.

How thick is the glass?
Our patterned glass is inventoried in double strength thickness (1/8”) but we can accommodate most any thickness order.

Is there a way to custom cut laminated glass?
Waterjet cutting is the only way to cut laminated glass.  It’s a cold method of cutting that does not introduce heat into the cutting equation.  Unique shapes can be cut with ease while utilizing the waterjet.  Generally the waterjet stream is mixed with abrasive, leaving the glass with a sandblasted edge rather than a polished edge.  The edge can be polished after waterjet cutting; if this is the look you desire.

Is there a cleanable alternative to frosted glass?
Frosted glass is a great way to present obscurity into a glazing yet allow light to emit through the opening.  But, traditional frosted glass is susceptible to body oil and air borne contaminates.  Laminating white ink between two pieces of glass is a way to replicate frosted glass while maintaining the cleanable surface of clear glass.  This is a more expensive option, but may be the better option when regular cleaning of frosted glass is not feasible.
